    The company originally produced vehicles for the US military, as well as buses and Trucks. In 1977, the name was changed to Dong-A Motor and in 1988, the company was given its current name after being acquired by the Ssangyong Group. Passenger cars have been produced since 1986. In 1987, the British luxury and specialty car manufacturer Panther Westwinds was purchased. In the early 1990s, a partnership with Mercedes-Benz was established.
